Pupil Voice - Our School Council

The Robert Fitzroy Academy has a school council which is made up of a group of children from Year 1 upwards. The Council has two branches - the Pastoral Council and the Learning Council, both councils are headed up by a member of staff to guide the children. The Pastoral Council meet to discuss ways in which we can improve our local and global communities and the Learning Council meet to discuss ways to improve our learning environment and our social welfare, playing an active role in the school’s commitment to ‘Road safety For All.’
The children apply for the post on the council and then chosen through a democratic process. Each council gather and represent the views of their peers and feedback to them on decisions made. The children help make decisions about how to further develop the school environment and how best to allocate money raised from fundraising activities.
As well as teaching the children about democracy it gives the pupils a sense of ownership.
